about

Redpanda Village is a label created to represent ethnic beauty
merged with contemporary design.

It began when Helen Wu started collecting materials in her travels in Thailand, Japan, China, and other parts of Southeast Asia. She got to know more about the livelihoods of marginalised indigenous tribes and decided to give support by purchasing their handicrafts. With training from her mother, Wu started designing, handcutting and sewing the bags, stitching in the tribal motifs and using the handmade materials that she acquired.

The idea is to support local artisans, preserve ethnic cultures, and be responsible for what we create. Using a medley of quality ingredients such as handspun/woven hemp, pure cotton and found materials to create unique bags full of soul and personality.

She hopes to spread the awareness globally about certain issues through her bags, which she views more as a companion than just a product. By purchasing a Redpanda bag, you are giving support to indigenous tribal cultures, who are being pushed aside, or exploited, due to rapid global development.

Based in New York, Helen is currently creating a collection under the label (her ethnic name) Homan. She is constantly collaborating with other artists for fresh and interesting perspectives.
